Oremus moves forward on Schaumburg lease

American AssociationAlan Oremus and his investors have 90 days to finalize a lease for Alexian Field, the former home of the Schaumburg Flyers (independent; Northern League), as both the Village Board and Park District gave initial approval to the group this week.

The ballpark is available because the Flyers were evicted earlier this month for nonpayment of the lease.

The baseline lease — the same as the Flyers signed — calls for $223,000 annually or 10 percent of sales, whichever is greater. In addition, the team pays $8,000 annually in a maintenance fee. Oremus has put down $50,000 as a deposit and will need to pay $450,000 more once the lease is signed.

The plan is for the ballpark to hold a limited number of events this summer and then house an independent American Association team next year. Oremus also owns the Joliet Slammers (independent; Frontier League), and members of his management team, like John Dittrich, will be involved in both ventures.
