New for 2011: The Omaha Storm Chasers

Omaha Storm ChasersThe Omaha Royals (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League) will have a new name in 2011, as a name-the-team contest yields a new name for the team playing in a new ballpark: The Omaha Storm Chasers.

Omaha Storm ChasersThe namewas unveiled by team president Alan Stein during an event at the downtown Embassy Suites. The team name is pretty dramatic: the Royals name was used beginning in 1969 when the team was actually owned by parent Kansas City Royals, except for a three-year (1999-2001) stint as the Omaha Golden Spikes.

Omaha Storm ChasersThe team will play in a new Sarpy County ballpark, Werner Park, slated to open in April.

The new look features two new mascots, Vortex (left) and Stormy (right).
