The Tampa Bay Rays have extended their player development contract (PDC) with the Charlotte Stone Crabs (High Class A; Florida State League) through the 2012 season.
The Stone Crabs have served as the High-A affiliate for the Rays since the team was first announced after the 2008 season. Charlotte won the FSL South Division Championship last year and already clinched a playoff spot this year after winning the first half.
“We are excited to continue our partnership with the Rays,” said Stone Crabs General Manager Joe Hart. “They are a high-class organization, and we look forward to building on the solid foundation that we have set during our first two years.”
Though Charlotte has not yet seen any alumni players make the Major League roster, the Stone Crabs have hosted rehabbing players like Carlos Pena, Jason Bartlett, Andy Sonnanstine and others.
“We are very pleased to extend our relationship with the Stone Crabs,” said Rays Director of Minor League Operations Mitch Lukevics. “Since our affiliation began two years ago, they have been great partners in the development of our players.”
