Avista Stadium, the home of the Spokane Indians (short-season A; Northwest League), will host a hockey game featuring the Spokane Chiefs — another team owned by Brett Sports — this winter.
The Spokane Chiefs will host the Kootenay Ice at Avista Stadium on Saturday, January 15, 2011 in the first ever outdoor event hosted by a WHL team. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
“Since the NHL outdoor game in Buffalo 2008 I have wanted the Spokane Chiefs to play in one,” said Bobby Brett, the president of the Spokane Chiefs. I think it will be an unbelievable event for our players and fans.”
“The WHL appreciates the commitment the Spokane Chiefs have made to stage the first ever WHL Outdoor Game in one of our longest standing and most successful U.S. markets,” said WHL Commissioner Ron Robison. “Our WHL fans in Spokane and throughout the US Pacific Northwest and Western Canada will not want to miss this historic outdoor event.”
Rockstar Energy Drink is the title sponsor of the event while Coeur d’Alene Casino, Waterbrook Wine and The Spokesman-Review will be presenting sponsors.
