The name of the relocated Connecticut Defenders: the Richmond Flying Squirrels.
We’re not quite sure how Richmond fans pissed off the baseball gods, but they must have done something really bad: the new Eastern League team is the Richmond Flying Squirrels.
The name was announced today at a press conference.
Now, we don’t mean to slag on the Richmond folks; Chuck Domino and Todd Parnell are two of the sharpest folks in Minor League Baseball, and they obviously think the name works. And it probably will; the mascot and giveaway possibilities are endless, and it certainly is memorable. But…Flying Squirrels? We can’t wait to see the logos and uni designs.
