Lockert was the Miners radio voice for the team’s inaugural 2007 season and had been the radio voice of Notre Dame’s hockey team for the past seven years.
“We are all saddened and shocked by Mike’s passing,” said Miners Vice President Erik Haag. “Mike was not only a great friend, but he was an integral part of the success we had during our opening season. We will all miss him.”
Prior to his season with the Miners, Lockert was the radio broadcaster and media relations director for the South Bend Silver Hawks, Single-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. He also spent time as a radio announcer for the Huntington Blizzard of the East Coast Hockey League and hosted several radio talk shows in his hometown of Los Angeles.
