Will new Winston-Salem ballpark open on time?

The locals are wondering whether a new downtown ballpark for the Winston-Salem Dash (High Class A; Carolina League) will open in April, given the ongoing negotiations over control of the team and the project.

The deal to have Billy Prim buy out his share of the Dash and the ballpark from his brother-in-law, Andrew "Flip" Filipowski, is still not finalized. And Prim has said he needs to control both before construction on the ballpark can begin again.

Team officials say there’s nothing unanticipated about the length of the negotiations, and that the team is still working toward an April opening. Perhaps, but there’s a whole lot of ballpark work to be done before a game can be played at the new ballpark, and reportedly the team has a deal to play at their former home, Ernie Shore Field, while the ballpark is completed.
