Between some bizarre weather and Zamboni mishaps, the preparations for the New Year’s Day NHL game at Wrigley Field are running ahead of schedule — if nothing goes wrong.
The preparation work began on a bad note when a Zamboni shipped to the historic ballpark fell off a truck, causing damage. Then 60-degree weather — coming during one of the harsher Chicago winters in recent years — slowed down the process of painting the ice over the weekend.
But organizers say everything will be a go for Thursday’s nationally televised game. Mother Nature, despite some curveballs this weekend, should cooperate: the forecast calls for 31 degree weather, with a small chance of precipitation.
