Land acquired for Drillers ballpark site

The seven acres needed for a new Tulsa Drillers ballpark has been acquired by the Tulsa Stadium Trust.
The seven acres slated for a new Tulsa Drillers (Class AA; Texas League) ballpark has been acquired by the Tulsa Stadium Trust, clearing the way for construction of a new $60-million facility.

The land is worth almost $2.78 million, but the trust’s final cost is only $723,250, as the majority of the parcel was donated by the Tulsa Development Authority. The ballpark site is in the city’s historic Greenwood District on a parcel bounded by Interstate 244, Elgin Avenue, Archer Street and Greenwood Avenue.

The new 6,200-seat ballpark will be funded by private citizens ($30 million), a tax on downtown businesses ($25 million) and the Drillers ($5 million). It is expected to be completed in time for the 2010 season.
