Bismarck Municipal Ballpark Receiving New Deck

Bismarck Municipal Ballpark deck rendering

The Bismarck Larks (summer collegiate; Northwoods League) will offer a new amenity at Bismarck Municipal Ballpark this season, as construction on a new 2,500-square-foot deck is underway.

Construction began this week on the new deck, which is being built in the ballpark’s Fireside Tailgate Area down the right-field line. One of the key intentions of its design is to create an area that provides better views of the action for individuals with disabilities and their families, as the deck will feature three accessible picnic tables, all of which can accommodate two wheelchairs and their companions. In addition, the Larks will provide four seats per game to an organization that assists individuals with disabilities and their families.

The deck is being constructed in partnership by the Larks and the Bismarck Parks and Recreation District, with the Northwoods League Foundation making a contribution toward the cost. More from the Bismarck Tribune:

The Northwoods League also pitched in toward the $93,000 cost through its charitable foundation.

The 2,500-square feet deck does not add any new seats, but does make for better sight lines in the popular Fireside Tailgate Area. The deck will have a seating capacity of 200. It will make for easier viewing for individuals with disabilities and their families. The Larks will donate four seats each game to an organization that assists individuals with disabilities and their families.

“We’re committed to this community and we’re committed to this ballpark,” said Larks general manager John Bollinger. “More than anything, this came out of the crazy growth and popularity of the team.

“This community has been great to us. We want to invest back into the ballpark and continue to make the experience for our fans the best we possibly can.”

Along with the new deck, Bismarck Municipal Ballpark is receiving a few other upgrades ahead of the 2019 season. Those changes include extended protective netting down both foul lines, new speakers in the YMCA Family Fun Zone and the Fireside Tailgate Area, and the addition of television in the Laughing Sun Lounge. The Larks begin their season with Opening Day on May 28.
