More details have been released on the 2018 Texas League All-Star Game, which will be hosted by the Midland RockHounds at Security Bank Ballpark. Scheduled for June 26, the game has secured a title sponsor in Concho Resources, Inc.
“We are so fortunate that Concho has been a RockHounds partner for many years,” RockHounds general manager Monty Hoppel said. “We have done a number of charity events together and I can’t think of a better company to be our title sponsor of the 2018 Texas League All-Star game.
“Concho’s headquarters are in Midland and all operations are in the Permian Basin. It is a natural fit to have two local companies partner together to host such a premier event that represents the best of what Midland stands for.”
The 2018 event, scheduled for June 26, will mark the fifth time the franchise has played host to the league’s midseason showcase and the third in the Scharbauer Sports Complex era. The game was played twice at Christensen Stadium (1987 and 1996) and the RockHounds have previously hosted at Security Bank Ballpark (2004 and 2010).
Among the major leaguers who have appeared in recent Texas League All-Star Games on their way to “the Show” are two-time American League Most Valuable Player Mike Trout (Los Angeles Angels), Texas Rangers stars Elvis Andrus and Jurickson Profar, World Series champion Mike Moustakas (Kansas City Royals), National League All-Star Nolan Arenado (Colorado Rockies) and George Springer and Alex Bregman of the newly-crowned World Series champion Houston Astros.
The game, which will be accompanied by a home run derby and a number of special guests (to be announced at a later date) matches the all-stars from the four North Division teams (Arkansas Travelers, Northwest Arkansas Naturals, Springfield Cardinals and Tulsa Drillers) against the South Division stars (Corpus Christi Hooks, Frisco RoughRiders, Midland RockHounds and San Antonio Missions).
