Five Finalists Unveiled for Name of Macon CPL Team

Coastal Plain League

Five monikers are up for consideration for the new Macon, GA franchise that will begin play in the Coastal Plain League next season.

The return of baseball to historic Luther Williams Field is already shaping up to be one of the more intriguing developments of 2018. For the arrival of the Coastal Plain League, the ballpark–which originally opened in 1929–will receive $2.5 million in improvements.

For now, the focus is on unveiling the team’s identity. Recently, the club began accepting suggestions for a team name, and has now narrowed its list of candidates down to five. “We looked through the nearly 1500 submissions and wanted to identify names that could be fun for everyone.  It could be either a play off the name of the city or something unique to Macon like the city’s musical history,”  team president Todd Pund said in a statement. “Now comes the real challenge of developing a logo and colors for these ideas that fans will be proud to wear.”

The five nominees are as follows: Macon BaconMacon HeatMacon Hits, Macon Noise, and Macon Soul. Feedback is currently being accepted at www.maconbaseball2018.com. More information about the contest can be found here.

Club officials are hoping to unveil the new branding at some point in September. “Based on our experience, the logo design process will take us some time,” co-owner Steve DeLay said in a statement.  “We’re targeting a mid to late September release of the name, logo and merchandise for sale.”
