Construction will begin this month on the ballpark for the Fond du Lac expansion franchise in the Northwoods League, with the project concluding next spring.
Fond du Lac is joining the summer collegiate circuit in 2017 after being confirmed as an expansion entry earlier this year. The franchise will be operated by Appleton Baseball Club Inc., which also runs the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Low A; Midwest League), and will play at Marian Unviersity’s Herr-Baker Field.
As was noted in August, the team’s arrival will lead to some Herr-Baker Field upgrades. Along with adding more seating around the existing field, the Northwoods League team will also required enhanced press, concession, and restroom areas. More from the Fond du Lac Reporter:
Building at the new baseball pavilion planned for Marian’s Herr-Baker Field will begin in November and is expected to wrap-up in April. Appleton Baseball Club Inc., owners of the new team — better-known as the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers — have selected Kimberly-based CR Structures Group as the general contractor for the project.
Another milestone that could take place in November is the announcement of the Fond du Lac franchise’s name. Five finalists in a name the team contest were revealed in October.
