With just a slight twist to their pronunciation, the Bowie Baysox (Class AA; Eastern League) will pay tribute to David Bowie by becoming the Bowie Baysox. The one-day David Bowie Tribute is set for Friday, June 22. The Bowie Baysox (pronounced Boo-ee) will make the ultimate dedication to the British musician who shares a heteronymous last name with the city by becoming the Bowie Baysox (pronounced Boh-ee) for this special night. The team will represent the star with Bowie music, contests and tributes throughout the event.

The Baysox will also wear special David Bowie-themed jerseys during the game that will be auctioned off during an in-game jersey auction. Proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit Feeding America. The designs for the multi-colored jerseys were inspired by the many flamboyant outfits that David Bowie was famous for wearing during his performances.

David Robert Jones, better known by his stage name David Bowie, passed away on January, 10 at the age of 69 after battling liver cancer. During his 50-plus year music career, Bowie’s music was influenced by and helped influence dozens of movements, including glam rock, electronica, funk, pop, outer space, etc. Bowie also became famous for his use of alter egos like “Ziggy Stardust”, “The Thin White Duke”, “Aladdin Sane” and even “Jareth the Goblin King” as he rose to superstardom through the 1980s.

David Bowie-themed fireworks are scheduled following the Baysox game on Friday.
