Mobile, Arizona extend player development contract

Mobile BayBearsAnother PDC to announce: the Mobile BayBears (Class AA; Southern League) and the Arizona Diamondbacks renewed their existing player development contract for two more years, through 2016.

“The BayBears organization has enjoyed eight great seasons as an Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate and we are excited to continue our great partnership,” said Mobile BayBears General Manager Chris Morgan. “Our fans have enjoyed seeing many former Mobile BayBears players excel at the Major League level and look forward to seeing many more in the future.”

Since the affiliation began in 2007, over 50 former Mobile BayBears players, including All-Star first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and 2014 NL Rookie of the Year candidate David Peralta, have played in the Major Leagues. The Mobile BayBears have made the playoffs in 5 of the 8 seasons as a Dbacks affiliate, winning back-to-back titles in 2011 and 2012, while clinching their fifth consecutive playoff appearance with a South Division crown in 2014.

“We are excited for the opportunity to return to Mobile. We’ve developed some of our best players at Hank Aaron stadium.” said Arizona Diamondbacks Director of Player Development Mike Bell. “We are grateful to the city of Mobile for the support and renovations that were made last year. Over the last 5 years we have competed well on the field and we will continue to work hard to provide a winner.”

This will be the last Double-A affiliation announced this year: all MiLB teams at this level are now committed to MLB parents.
