Two upgrades from the Milwaukee Brewers to note this season at Miller Park: a Bob Uecker statue will be installed in the back row of the cheap seats, and burger powerhouse AJ Bombers will open a new stand.
If you’re not from Miilwaukee or Madison, you probably don’t know AJ Bombers: they are purveyors of award-winning burgers recognized by media near and far both for its food and its cutting-edge marketing strategies. From peanut butter to fried pickles to the special bomber sauce, AJ Bombers has some unique takes on burgers and the restaurant atmosphere, with colorful bombers attached to the ceiling delivering peanuts to tables in a very loud fashion.
And the Brewers are bringing in AJ Bombers to Miller Park this season, with the restaurant taking over the Plaza Pavilion in the right-field area. It’s an indoor-outdoor space, with a dedicated seating area as well. The menu will be pared down to four burgers and a line of custard-based concretes. We’d expect the Milwaukee Burger — complete with Schlitz-soaked onions — on the menu, as well as the Barrie Burger, festooned with peanut butter and bacon. But the plan is also for specialty burgers and concretes based on the visiting team. Can’t wait. In recent years the Brewers have significantly upgraded the food offerings at Miler Park.
Also on tap for 2014: a second Miller Park statue honoring long-time broadcaster Bob Uecker.
The statue will pay tribute to the popular Miller Lite “All Stars” ad campaign which featured Uecker’s famous tagline, “I must be in the front row.” In the commercial, Uecker ended up in the last row-as will this statue. The statue will sit atop the Uecker Seats in Miller Park’s Terrace Level (Section 422) and will feature an open seat next to it, allowing for a perfect photo opportunity.
“I can’t think of a better place to put this statue,” Uecker said. “This will be great for fans and even better for pigeons. You might even be able to see a little part of the field.”
The statue was designed by Brian Maughan, the artist of the four statues outside Miller Park on the Home Plate Plaza-Hank Aaron, Allan H. “Bud” Selig, Robin Yount and Uecker. The statue will be made of bronze, but will also have color effects.
“Bob Uecker is synonymous with the Brewers and his famous ‘I must be in the front row’ tagline is iconic,” said Brewers Chief Operating Officer Rick Schlesinger. “This statue will definitely become a destination for fans visiting Miller Park.”
The new statue won’t be ready for the season opener: it will be dedicated April 25.
