Updated look for St. Lucie Mets unveiled

New St. Lucie Mets logoThe St. Lucie Mets (High Class A; Florida State League) unveiled a new look for 2013, complete with new logos and uniforms.

The new look is a mix of logos borrowed from parent New York Mets and images native to Florida. For instance, the Mets logo is augmented with a palm tree, and Mr. Met is decked out with sunglasses and a colorful Hawaiian shirt with Mets logos throughout. The rebranding didn’t go as far as it could — team officials said they considered renaming the team away from the Mets brand — but it’s still pretty extensive.

“We thought it was a good time with our 25th anniversary coming up in 2013,” said Paul Taglieri, Mets Director of Florida Operations. “We wanted to stay with what the big club was doing and also add our own touches to it.”

The new primary logo displays the scripted words “St. Lucie Mets” in orange on a piece of driftwood, which includes a palm tree and the sun to the right.

The former logo had the words “St. Lucie Mets” in blue next to a palm tree with a baseball in the sun.

The Mets moved the black away from the uniform and it now has more of a Florida effect.

The St. Lucie Mets home jersey is white with the “Mets” scripted across the front in orange. The road jersey will feature all gray and “St. Lucie” scripted across the front. Both jerseys have blue numbers on the front.

The St. Lucie Mets batting practice jersey is blue with the St. Lucie logo on the side of the uniform.

The St. Lucie Mets home hat is blue with an orange brim with “SL” lettering in a more curved look. The road hat is all blue with orange lettering while the batting practice hat is all orange with blue lettering.

The team will be introducing more looks, and potentially a new mascot, in January. The current mascot, Slider, will not be replaced by the new Mr. Met, however.
