Talks are ongoing between Mandalay Baseball Properties and Livingston Parish, a suburb of Baton Rouge, to bring a Class AA Southern League team to a new $35-million ballpark.
The new ballpark would be located south of Livingston near the Interstate 12 Livingston exit. With 5,500 fixed seats and 1,500 or so berm capacity, the new ballpark would hold roughly 7,000 and contain parking for 2,500 cars. The parish would spend between $30 million and $35 million on the facility.
Mandalay would sign a 20-year lease at $100,000 a year, beginning in April 2013, according to a copy of the MOU supplied to Ballpark Digest.
The ballpark would be the centerpiece of a larger 200-acre development that could also include other leisure offerings, retail, restaurants and housing.
Mandalay currently does not own a team in the Southern League but has committed to buy one.
