Double-A team exploring move to Baton Rouge area

MiLBOnce again we have interest from an affiliated team in the Baton Rouge area, as officials in Livingston Parish say they’re in talks with a Double-A team about an entertainment complex and ballpark in the suburban city.

In the past reps from the Huntsville Stars (Class AA; Southern League) has been identified as talking with Baton Rouge officials. Going further back both Ryan-Sanders Baseball and Ripken Baseball had been associated with a Baton Rouge bid, with Nolan Ryan visiting personally to lobby for public help. It’s considered to be a promising market by many; the lack of a decent facility has scared off potential team owners.

“It is an established team that would move from elsewhere,” Parish President Mike Grimmer told the Advocate. “There’s still a lot of work to be done.”

More information should come out at a Feb. 10 Parish Council meeting.
