There was a new attendance record set over the weekend, as the Tennnessee Smokies (Class AA; Southern League) attracted over 8,000 fans to Saturday’s game.
For their matchup against the Chattanooga Lookouts on June 17, the Smokies drew 8,164 fans. That set a new Smokies Stadium attendance record, and marked the first time that more than 8,000 spectators attended a game at the ballpark. Smokies Stadium has been the team’s home since its opening in 2000.
Saturday’s game coincided with a notable promotion, as the Smokies were hosting Jimmy Buffett Tribute Night.
On the field, it was the Lookouts who prevailed, defeating the Smokies by a final of 7-5.
