The Birmingham Barons (Class AA; Southern League) signed a major sponsorship calling for the Verizon Wireless brand attached to major promotions and ballpark features over the next three seasons.
For the 2015-2018 seasons, Verizon will sponsor the Family Berm, deeming it the Verizon Wireless Family Zone, and install multiple charging stations throughout Regions Field for fans to utilize during games. Verizon will also sponsor a Regions Field vintage lunch box to be given to the first 1,000 fans through the gates on July 31. Verizon will also sponsor the t-shirt cannon, and representatives will be on hand at select games throughout the season to display their latest wireless devices and accessories.
“Bringing Verizon Wireless into our Barons family is very exciting for us and for our fans,” Barons General Manager Jonathan Nelson said. “We are committed to bringing the best products and services to Regions Field. Offering onsite access to the latest and greatest wireless products is a big step in providing attendees with the best possible fan experience.”
“We are excited to join the Barons team and further deepen our presence in the Birmingham community,” said Jonathan LeCompte, president – Georgia/Alabama Region, Verizon Wireless. “Local sports are an important component of any community and we are happy to be a part of the excitement at all of the upcoming season’s games.”
Now, we’ve seen recharging stations in MLB ballparks: Best Buy, for instance, sponsors phone recharging stations at Target Field under a major sponsorship deal with the Minnesota Twins. Given the amount of marketing money flowing through wireless companies these days and how much fans would love recharging stations at the ballpark, sponsorships like these should be seen all across Minor League Baseball.
