Snappers board will consider buyout offer

Beloit SnappersThe Beloit Snappers (Low Class A; Midwest League) Board of Directors will discuss a purchase offer from former board member Brian Christianson at the next board meeting.

That there are issues with the Snappers finances and Pohlman Field is no secret: MiLB President/CEO Pat O’Conner bluntly warned folks in Beloit in 2014 that the ballpark’s situation needs to be addressed. Christianson, a former board president who worked on failed new-ballpark plans, has offered to buy the team and keep it in Beloit. Christianson issued a three-page memo to board members outlining what he thinks needs to be done and offering to buy the team, and team president Dennis Conerton now confirms the topic will be addressed at the next board meeting.

Not necessarily a surprise, either. There may be more of an urgency to discussions of the team’s future than in the past; we’ve heard new league president Dick Nussbaum already has had informal talks with cities seeking a Midwest League team.
