The sale of the Frisco RoughRiders (Class AA; Texas League) to a new ownership group led by Chuck Greenberg and Scott Sonju has been finalized and approved by the Texas League and Minor League Baseball.
That means the new group is now in charge after Major League Baseball did not object to the sale. This is the second shift today for Mandalay Baseball Properties, which is liquidating its franchises.
“We are extremely excited to begin this new era of Frisco RoughRiders baseball and will begin immediately with our plan to provide an enhanced level of fun, affordable entertainment and value to our loyal ‘Riders fans for the remainder of the 2014 season,” said Greenberg, who will serve as chairman, CEO and managing partner of the new ownership group. “Looking forward, we have already begun the process of planning and executing some dynamic additions and improvements to Dr Pepper Ballpark for the 2015 season and beyond, and we can’t wait to unveil the specifics in the very near future.”
“We are committed to preserving the best parts of the ‘Riders while looking to enhance the ballpark experience and make the ‘Riders truly exceptional,” said Sonju, president and co-managing partner. “Chuck brings so much energy and creativity and his passion for excellence and serving our fans and sponsors will impact every facet of the ‘Riders.”
“On behalf of the Texas League, I’d like to congratulate Chuck and Scott. They will make a great team and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for RoughRiders fans,” added Tom Kayser, president of the Texas League.
