It’s a dog’s life again at Greensboro ballpark

Statues, Donald Moore in Greensboro

Nice ending to a bad situation: After the statue of Miss Babe Ruth at NewBridge Bank Park was stolen and vandalized, the Greensboro Grasshoppers (Low Class A; Sally League) went ahead with a replacement — and added Master Yogi Berra to the mix.

Anyone attending a Grasshoppers game knows what an important role these dogs, owned by team president/GM Donald Moore, play at the ballpark. Indeed, it’s hard to imagine a game without them. So when the statue of Babe Ruth was stolen this past summer, it was a big deal.

The Greensboro Police Department helped round up the stolen statue, but it was harmed beyond repair — and that’s when the team decided to commission a replacement. Judging by the reaction at the unveiling yesterday, it’s a hit. Not only is Miss Babe Ruth’s likeness returned to the ballpark, she’s joined by her brother, Master Yogi Berra.
