Improbable pair to appear at Monday Thunder game

Trenton ThunderIf you asked us to come up with a highly unlikely pairing of celebrities to appear at a Minor League Baseball game, there’s no way we’d come up with Elizabeth Gilbert and Harold Reynolds, who will be at Waterfront Park, the home of the Trenton Thunder (Class AA; Eastern League), Monday night.

It’s not surprising to see Reynolds on the agenda: the former MLB All-Star and current MLB Network analyst will throw out a ceremonial first pitch as well as signing autographs for fans on the main concourse before the game. He’ll be appearing as part of a MLB Network Night promotion.

The surprise comes in the form of Frenchtown, N.J. resident Elizabeth Gilbert, author of the best-selling memoir Eat, Pray, Love, which recounts her journey around the world during a difficult time in her life. It has been translated into 30 languages and the international best-seller became a film in 2010 starring Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts.

Gilbert will not be holding a formal book signing at the stadium. She will be on the field before the game and will sign autographs for interested fans before and after she throws her ceremonial first pitch.
