Frank Gilhooley, the voice of the Toledo Mud Hens (Class AAA; International League) from 1987 through 2008, passed away Friday while in hospice care. He was 86.
Gilhooley‘s history with the Mud Hens began in 1937, when as a young man he served as a bat boy for the team. He entered broadcasting after playing basketball for Notre Dame and a stint in the Army, becoming the voice of the old Toledo Sox in 1953.
After serving as a sportscaster for almost 20 years in Toledo, he joined the Mud Hens as the team’s radio voice in 1987.
