The Lake County Captains (Low Class A; Midwest League) unveiled a new logo, colors and team identity today, dropping the cartoonish riverboat captain and embracing a more modern design.
The new primary logo solidifies the Captains nautical theme and the organization’s ties to Lake County. The primary colors in the new scheme will be navy blue, light blue, tan, yellow and flesh. The primary logo features a ship wheel with the new “Captains” script font across the center with a baseball below the name coming out of a wave of water. The handles of the ships wheel represent the knobs of baseball bats.
“We are proud to begin a new chapter in Captains history with the introduction of this team identity,” said Captains Vice President & General Manager Brad Seymour. “We feel the new logo and color scheme provides us not only with a great updated image that will be popular in our community, but it also honors the local nautical theme by which our team is named for.”
You can view a logo sheet of the new look here.
The new identity was developed by Louisville, Kentucky-based Studio Simon. Studio Simon has teamed up with over 100 professional, collegiate and amateur sports teams, leagues and businesses on the development of complete team identity systems.
The Captains will wear traditional white home uniforms, featuring the “Captains” script across the front chest in Navy Blue outlined in light blue. The “I” in Captains will be a lighthouse with a gold beacon light. The uniforms will be complimented by navy blue New Era caps featuring a new “C” logo on the front. The “C” will feature a lighthouse rising up from the bottom of the letter.
While on the road, the club will don traditional gray uniforms with “Lake County” script prominently displayed across the chest in navy blue trimmed in light blue. The team will wear the same hat while on the road as they do at home. The team will also wear a batting practice and alternate navy blue jersey with a “C” on the left side of the chest. The “C” will have stars and bars as part of the design. The batting practice and alternate hat will be navy blue and feature a gold bill and updated “Captain” logo on the front.
