New for 2010: Mosaic Field at Charlotte Sports Park

Pending county approval, the spring-training home of the Tampa Bay Rays will have a new name.

Pending county approval, the spring-training home of the Tampa Bay Rays and the regular-season home of the Charlotte County Stone Crabs (High Class A; Florida State League) will have a new name: Mosaic Field at Charlotte Sports Park.

Mosaic is a Florida company that mines phosphate to create fertilizer.

Terms of the deal were not released. However, Charlotte County will receive $77,000 annually as part of the sale. The deal calls for extensive branding of the Mosaic name on all ballpark signage.

The approval by Charlotte County will be contentious; Mosaic and Charlotte County have been at odds for years over environmental controls on the firm's mining operations.
