An injury report to pass along: the Greensboro Grasshoppers (Low Class A; Sally League) have placed Miss Lou Lou Gehrig on the disabled list for today’s game.
The popular Labrador Retriever bat dog came up lame as she was warming up for her 7th-inning bat fetching duties during last night’s game versus the Delmarva Shorebirds.
“Lou Lou had a serious limp and I didn’t think it was wise for her to work,” said Grasshoppers President and General Manager Donald Moore. “She will be evaluated by her doctor Monday morning and we hope it is nothing serious.”
Three-year-old Lou Lou is being groomed to take over for the legendary Miss Babe Ruth, who recently announced her retirement effective at the end of the 2015 season.
“Our dogs work very hard and unfortunately injuries are part of the game,” Moore continued. “It also reinforces how incredible Babe’s streak is, as she worked her 597th consecutive game last night.”
