Ownership of the Thunder Bay Border Cats (summer collegiate; Northwoods League) has officially changed hands, as a contingent of local investors has bought the club.
This fall, the Northwoods League confirmed that it had issued a termination notice to Superior Baseball Club Inc., the entity that backed the Thunder Bay, Ontario-based Border Cats. It found that the American-based group, which had owned the Border Cats since 2016, breached its affiliation agreement with the league by being financially insolvent. A local group had been working to take over the club, and has now finalized a purchase agreement under the entity Grand Slam Sports & Entertainment Inc.
By finalizing the purchase agreement, the group has ensured that the club will remain in Thunder Bay. More from tbnewswatch.com:

“We signed the purchase agreement with the Northwoods League. Our company, Grand Slam Sports and Entertainment, which is the new operator of the Thunder Bay Border Cats and all local investors, we’re very excited.
“It was a long process, but a very good process – great dialogue with the league. We’re just very happy the Border Cats will be playing ball in 2019 at Port Arthur Stadium and for hopefully years to come.”
The new group backing the club consists of 20-plus local investors, according to an announcement issued this week by the Border Cats. Currently the only Canadian team in the Northwoods League, the Border Cats have played at Thunder Bay’s Port Arthur Stadium since 2003.
