Joilet Slammers Lease Extension Approved

Joliet Slammers

The Joliet Slammers (independent; Frontier League) will continue to call Joliet Route 66 Stadium home, with the Joliet City Council approving a five-year lease extension.

The Slammers played the 2018 season under a one-year lease for Joliet Route 66 Stadium that was to expire at the end of this month. In their latest negotiations with the city, the Slammers were hoping to secure a longer-term lease after the city approved just a one-year pact in September 2017.

Ultimately, the Slammers and city have agreed to a five-year lease extension that was approved by the Joliet City Council earlier this week. Several stipulations were rolled into in the lease, with some of the most notable terms including a $50,000 rent increase for the team. The lease was approved with just one dissenting vote. More from MyWebTimes.com:

Rent goes up to $75,000 a year, which is the same rent the Slammers were paying before it was lowered to $25,000 this year as a compensation for the team agreeing to a one-year lease.

Council member Larry Hug suggested the rent is too low, saying other teams in the Frontier League pay $250,000 or more.
