Upgrades on Tap for Alex Box Stadium, Tiger Park

LSU videoboard 2019

The baseball and softball facilities at LSU will be significantly upgraded for the 2019 NCAA season, as a new videoboard pitched as the largest in college baseball will be on display at Alex Box Stadium.

The new 16-mm high-definition videoboard measures 71.4 feet wide by 37.8 feet high, for a total square footage of 2,698 square feet. A full production back end will be installed, allowing for instant replays and enhanced statistical information, and two freestanding sponsor boards will flank the new videoboard. Also on tap at Alex Box Stadium: a new auxiliary videoboard in right-center field, with game and score information.

As noted, it’s billed as the largest in college baseball, slightly than the new videoboard installed as part of the renovations at Mississippi State’s Dudy Noble Field.

“There is no better place to experience college baseball than in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field,” LSU coach Paul Mainieri said, “and this new video board will make the environment at ‘The Box’ even more distinctive. Our fans are unmatched in their enthusiasm for our program, and we’re excited to create new ways for them to enjoy watching the Tigers play.”

Also on tap for 2019: an expanded indoor batting facility, adding 4,300 square feet of space, including a 3,500 square-foot weight training facility.

“It’s all in our continuing effort to enhance the in-game experience for the best fans in college baseball,” said Robert Munson, senior associate athletic director. “The new board will not have any static advertising, so it will be focused on baseball. It will have constantly updated in-game stats for batters, detailed pitch stats like pitch counts and speed, and will essentially function like a real-time box score. It’s an open canvas for us and we’re excited to see what we can do with it.”

At Tiger Park, the LSU softball program will benefit from a new videoboard, a new LSU Softball Performance Center, resurfacing of the playing field and a new drainage system. The has also broken ground in the last few weeks.

The new videoboard will be 655 square feet, complete with replay and full production.

“We value the experience that our fans have at Tiger Park,” said head coach Beth Torina. “These upgrades will help build an even better experience for our Tiger fans and student-athletes. We look forward to another great year at Tiger Park.”
