On Tap for August 4: Beer City Bung Hammers

Beer City Bung Hammers jerseys

The West Michigan Whitecaps (Low A; Midwest League) are tapping into the Grand Rapids beer scene for a unique promotion, as they will play as the Beer City Bung Hammers on August 4.

This one-game name change will coincide with Salute to Beer City Night.  The Grand Rapids area is known for its vibrant craft beer scene, as it features more than 80 breweries and was credited as having the Best Beer Scene in America by USA Today’s 10best.com in 2016 and 2017. The Whitecaps, who play at Fifth Third Ballpark in suburban Comstock Park, will honor that distinction with the Bung Hammers identity.

The Bung Hammers name is inspired by a specialized tool. According to a website for the promotion, the bung hammer is used “for sealing and unsealing the bung in the side of a barrel when aging craft beer.”

The Bung Hammers brand is complete with a number of unique elements, including a specialized uniform that will be worn by West Michigan/Beer City that evening. Bunghammers.com also features Bung Hammers apparel, along with other information about the promotion.

Salute to Beer City Night is planned for Saturday, August 4. That evening, the Whitecaps/Bung Hammers will host the Dayton Dragons.
