Centerplan Construction and DoNo Hartford have filed a notice of intent to sue over land surrounding Dunkin’ Donuts Park, home of the Hartford Yard Goats (Class AA; Eastern League).
Centerplan and DoNo Hartford were the original developers of Dunkin’ Donuts Park, but had their contract terminated by the city in 2016 after deadlines were missed during the construction process. The two parties were to also develop the land surrounding the ballpark, which was envisioned as including amenities such as offices, housing, retail and more. However, that arrangement was cancelled in October of 2017, when the city fired the pair from the development side of the project.
Late last month, Centerplan and DoNo Hartford filed their notice of intent to sue, requesting that the court declare their lease with the city for the land surrounding the ballpark as active. More from The Hartford Courant:
In the notice — filed by Centerplan and DoNo on Dec. 29 – the developers asked the court to rule that their lease with the city is active. They plan to place liens on the properties.
“DoNo Hartford LLC and its affiliates claim said terminations are wrongful and of no effect, and that all the leases are still in force,” they wrote in the filing.
Raymond Garcia, an attorney for Centerplan, declined to comment on the action Tuesday.
Mayor Luke Bronin did not return calls seeking comment.
As part of a separate case that is still pending, the developers have sued the city for wrongful termination. Since cutting ties with Centerplan and DoNo Hartford on the development side, Hartford has sought to attract new developers to handle that end of the project, and issued a request for proposals in November.
