Development near the home of the Texas Rangers continues, as ground was broken Wednesday for the Live! by Loews-Arlington hotel.
The Rangers and the Baltimore-based Cordish Companies are partnering on Texas Live!, an entertainment complex. In its location, the mixed-use development will provide new amenities in the area surrounding the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium and the Rangers’ upcoming Globe Life Field.
Ground was broken on Texas Live! in March, but development in the area took another step forward with the groundbreaking for the hotel. Live! by Loews-Arlington will feature an infinity-edge pool, as well as an event lawn and a covered outdoor bar that offers views of the surrounding area. Officials believe the 14-story, 302-room hotel and Texas Live! development will play a big role when it comes to bringing major events to Arlington. More from The Star-Telegram:
The new hotel and Texas Live! will allow Arlington to convince tourists to stay longer. Adding another 2,000 hotel rooms would also help attract more meetings and conventions, said Ron Price, president and CEO of the Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau.
“We need to build something that makes visitors stay one more day,” Price said. “That’s huge for the local economy.”
Having Loews and Texas Live! will also help attract more mega-events like the NFL Draft, which is coming to AT&T Stadium next year. Price said it isn’t just about major sporting events like the Super Bowl or Final Four but also multiday music festivals that will use both stadiums and Texas Live!
And the new Globe Life Field, with its retractable roof, will also attempt to attract new events. Ground has been cleared and holes are being dug for the new stadium.
Currently, parts of the Texas Live! development are expected to open at some point in 2018. The Rangers are expected to move to Globe Life Field in 2020, and will play at the existing Globe Life Park in Arlington until the new ballpark is ready.
