Plans Unveiled for Joliet Route 66 Stadium

Joliet Route 66 Stadium

Local officials have unveiled plans for Joliet Route 66 Stadium, a new concept for the home of the Joliet Slammers (independent; Frontier League).

The home of the Slammers has been without a naming rights partner since an agreement with Silver Cross Hospital expired last year. In the time since, there has not been an announcement regarding a new naming rights partner, but Joliet is planning to implement some new elements.

As released, the rendering for Joilet Route 66 Stadium depicts a Route 66 highway sign and convertible sports car. In each of the two towers at the ballpark’s front entrance, there would be six front end chassis parts of classic cars. This concept does not include a sponsors so the search for a naming rights partner will continue, according to Joliet Economic Development Director Steve Jones. More from The Herald-News:

Jones said there is no timetable yet for implementing the new concept, and it will not necessarily be ready for the start of the Slammers baseball season in May.

The new name does not come with a sponsor, meaning the city and Slammers are still looking for a naming-rights partner at the stadium.

“It doesn’t stop that,” Joliet Economic Development Director Steve Jones said. “We’re not closing the door on naming rights. But the identity is Joliet, and it’s Route 66.”

Conceptually, a naming rights sponsor could be added to the name of the stadium, he said.

The ballpark has been home to the Slammers since 2011, and is currently receiving a significant upgrade in the form of a field replacement.
