New for 2018: Pierre Trappers

Pierre Trappers

Branding for a new summer collegiate team in the upstart Expedition League has been announced, as the Pierre Trappers have unveiled their name and logo. The team colors are Navy, Vegas Gold and White.

The name “Trappers” was chosen for its uniqueness and the history of trapping and fur trade that helped build the city of Pierre. Joseph LaFramboise established a fur trading post in what is now Pierre in 1817. From then on, fur trade and trapping have been a monumental part of the history of Pierre and its surrounding areas, which gives the name fitting historical context.

Along with its branding, the club also revealed some key personnel decisions for its inaugural season.

Zach Ireland named Head Coach.

Zach Ireland, native of San Marcos, California, will serve as the Head Coach of the Trappers for the inaugural 2018 season. Ireland currently coaches infielders and hitters at California State University San Marcos, a position he has held the past two seasons, and also serves as the Head Coach to Matt Guiliano’s coaching staff. Prior to CSUSM, Ireland was on the University of Sioux Falls (USF) coaching staff for two years, serving as the primary infield coach.

Ireland played college baseball at the University of Sioux Falls in Sioux Falls, SD from 2010 to 2013 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management in 2013. He started 154 out of a possible 180 games in his four-year collegiate career. He attended Mission Hills High School in San Marcos, CA and graduated in 2009.

Jackson Bruce introduced as General Manager.

Bruce, a Pierre native, has been named the General Manager of the Trappers after spending parts of two seasons with the Austin Bruins of the NAHL doing sponsorship sales and game day operations. Bruce is a Northern State University graduate with a degree in Sport Marketing and Administration. He has had previous experience in sports working with the USHL’s Youngstown Phantoms and the WSHL’s Casper Coyotes. He also spent time as an intern with the NAHL’s Aberdeen Wings and the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, the Short Season Single-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians.

As the General Manager, Bruce will be responsible for season and group ticket sales, corporate partnerships, creating, organizing and overseeing all in-game promotions, managing the team’s social media platforms and website, and serving as the host family liaison. He will also manage all game day staff and plan, organize and oversee extra events at Hyde Stadium.
