Details have emerged on a proposed new ballpark that the University of Florida could construct for its baseball program.
Some of the details on the concept for a proposed new facility have come to light, with a plan providing a glimpse of what the ballpark could look like. The facility would be constructed as part of a $45,878,800 project, with the estimated timeline calling for construction to begin in August 2018, allowing for the facility to be ready for action at the start of the 2020 season.
As proposed, it would feature 5,500 seats and offer some of the latest amenities found at similar ballparks, including a 360-degree concourse, various types of fan seating, modern baseball administration space, state-of-the-art player and coach facilities, and more. More from Gatorsports.com:
The University Athletic Association has posted an ad for an architect and design team for a new 5,500-seat baseball stadium that would be scheduled to be ready for the 2020 season at a cost of $45,878,800.
The ad does not specify a site for the new stadium.
“We are looking at several options related to our athletic facilities master plan and are not prepared to discuss any further details at this time,” said UAA spokesman Steve McClain.
The Florida Gators currently play at McKethan Stadium at Perry Field. That facility originally opened in 1988 and was named for named for Alfred A. McKethan, a wealthy benefactor who contributed $2.4 million toward its construction.
