The proposed Ballpark Commons development in Franklin, WI has moved forward, with Milwaukee County approving a key land sale.
On Thursday, the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors approved the sale of the Crystal Ridge landfill to ROC Ventures. Led by Mike Zimmerman, ROC Ventures is seeking to execute a plan that would bring a new ballpark to the area, along with a driving range and other development.
With the 11-7 vote by the supervisors, construction could begin in the spring of 2018, with the ballpark expected to open in 2019, according to a news release from supervisor Steve Taylor. This has been the latest development surrounding the proposal. More from The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel:
Taylor commended Zimmerman and his team for “enduring through this very long process and working transparently with both elected officials and surrounding neighbors to make this a first-class project.” He also thanked his colleagues for “having the foresight and approving this grand venture.”
Recently, the city of Franklin authorized the city engineer to spend up to $20,000 to bring in outside help for the Ballpark Commons plan review. Both Graef and Ruekert and Mielke Inc. have expressed interest in assisting the city with the review.
Within the development would be several other amenities, including dining and retail options.
