A significant milestone has been reached by the Vancouver Canadians (Short Season A; Northwest League), as the club has set a new attendance record.
The Canadians announced this week that they had welcomed a record total of 239,527 fans through the gates of Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium this season, amounting to a 98.3% ballpark capacity rate, the highest in Vancouver professional baseball history. That also gave the club a per-game average of 6,303. The Canadians were purchased by current owners Jake Kerr and Jeff Mooney in 2007. At the time, they were coming off a total attendance figure of 123,878 in 2006, with a per-game average of 3,260.
As the Northwest League season comes closer to its conclusion, the Canadians rank at the top of the circuit in both total attendance and per-game average. The franchise has been a continued success for several years, particularly since it was acquired by Kerr and Mooney, as ballpark upgrades have had a role in helping to reshape the fan experience at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium.
The Canadians closed out their regular season home slate on Wednesday with a win over Boise Hawks.
