Fisher Cats Gearing Up for Eastern League All-Star Classic

This year’s Eastern League All-Star Classic is heading to Manchester, where the New Hampshire Fisher Cats are gearing up for the event.

It is All-Star week across a few leagues, as the major league contest will take place in Miami tonight while the Triple-A game is slated for Tacoma’s Cheney Stadium on Wednesday. Also scheduled for Wednesday is the Eastern League All-Star Classic, which will be held at the Fisher Cats’ Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Since Northeast Delta Dental Stadium’s opening in 2005, an All-Star Game has not been an uncommon occurrence. In fact, this will be the third time the Fisher Cats have hosted the contest at the ballpark, with their previous turns coming in 2008 and 2011.

However, with events scheduled over multiple days this year, Fisher Cats president Mike Ramshaw says the team is looking to create a memorable fan experience. More from the New Hampshire Union Leader:

“The first classic will always be special because it was our first one. I remember in 2008 we finished the home run derby contest in the middle of the second inning of the all-star classic game. Snider won it that year before our fans. In 2011, throughout that home run derby contest, we were able to raise money for New Horizons, which was great.”

Ramshaw said this year the Fisher Cats have raised the bar.

“Unlike the first two classics, this one will be over two days and I encourage fans to take advantage of our two-day special ticket price package of only $20,” said Ramshaw. “We have raised the bar this year starting with the new renovations we made to the ballpark. We’ve added the Trackman, which can track the distance of homers hit in the derby contest. We’ll show the distance of the homers and replays on our video scoreboard. Fans will be selected to be on the field during the derby to shag the fly balls that don’t leave the park. Fans who get to the park early to watch batting practice will also have a chance to keep any foul ball hit into the stands. The balls are different than the ones used in the regular season. On Tuesday and Wednesday only, they will have an Eastern League All-Classic logo on them.”

There will be two events on Tuesday, including an Army vs. New Hampshire Celebrity Softball Game at 5:00 p.m., followed by a Home Run Derby that starts at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday’s All-Star Classic will begin at 7:05 p.m.

The All-Star Classic also gives the Fisher Cats a chance to show off their recent ballpark upgrades. Prior to this season, the team made several changes to Northeast Delta Dental Stadium, including enhanced seating in left field, a rock waterfall, tiki bar, game area and live music stage.
