Populous Joins Wrigley Field Renovation Project

Chicago Cubs

Populous will assume a major role in the ongoing Wrigley Field renovations, as the Chicago Cubs have selected the firm to oversee the design of several projects.

Over the course of the ongoing 1060 Project , the Cubs have used several firms to oversee parts of the project. D’AIQ, ICON, VOA, and Harboe are among those tied to the Wrigley Field modernization, which has continued over this offseason and is expected to wrap up prior to the 2020 campaign.

The Cubs will call on Populous to oversee some of the final projects. Specifically, the firm will have a major role in several of Wrigley Field’s new premium areas, including the American Airlines 1914 Club. Populous has plenty of experience with the Cubs and Wrigley Field, and will spend the next few years working on the project. More from The Chicago Business Journal:

Populous returns to familiar ground on the North Side. The company designed Wrigley’s bleacher expansion in 2006 before their reconstruction two years ago, as well as new premium seats behind home plate and down the first- and third-base lines.

Similar to the bleachers, those premium seats are being replaced as part of an extensive makeover of the 103-year-old facility whose cost now stands at $550 million, [Cubs president of business operations Crane] Kenney said.

Over the next three years, Populous will complete the design of the new American Airlines 1914 Club behind home plate, two additional clubs down the foul lines on the main concourse and a club in the upper deck, plus suite renovations and concessions improvements.

The installation of new seating and the relocation of both the home and visitors bullpens have been among the projects taking place at Wrigley Field over the last few months. In January, we took a closer look at the remaining changes that are on tap at Wrigley Field.
