Ballpark at Jackson Parking Could Expand

Jackson Generals

Following a donation of land near The Ballpark at Jackson, city officials are mulling whether to expand parking at the home of the Jackson Generals (Class AA; Southern League).

At this point, the city is looking at how to plan on utilizing more than 10 acres of property near the ballpark that was donated by Delta Faucet. Among the possibilities is a new hotel conference center, which add to the city’s goal in making the area’s entertainment scene more vibrant.

No final decisions have been made, but adding the convention center could affect the ballpark. More from The Jackson Sun:

Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist said if the plans are completed for the hotel and convention center, ballpark parking will have to expand, as it further proves the growth of the area.

“It continues to solidify that it exists as a major commercial and entertainment area for the city,” Gist said.

City councilman Scott Conger said the addition of a hotel and convention center would only add to the economic growth of Jackson.

“It is a huge factor in Madison County and Jackson,” Conger said. “We have hundreds of teams come in, people from all over for different tournaments.”
The project is pending a second vote, which will take place at a later date. The Ballpark at Jackson first opened in 1998 for the Generals, who were then known as the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx.
