Fayetteville Releases Ballpark Renderings

The City of Fayetteville has released renderings of the proposed High-A Carolina League ballpark that could open in 2019.

In September, Fayetteville announced that HKS was being asked to develop a series of conceptual renderings for the ballpark. While any designs are fairly preliminary in nature at this point, Fayetteville has previously discussed a few details. The ballpark would seat somewhere in the range of 4,000 to 4,500 fans, and be built to easily host non-baseball events.

Fayetteville officials have previously cited Spirit Communications Park–home of the Columbia Fireflies (Low A; Sally League)–as a model for the ballpark. Rather than directly copying that facility, however, Fayetteville has discussed building a scaled-down version of the venue that would cost closer to $33 million rather than the previously projected $46.9 million.

The preliminary renderings seem to account for how the ballpark will look when surrounded by adjacent development. Investment within downtown Fayetteville is seen as a key part of making the project work, and officials have previously estimated that $60 million in investment could be on the table.

Ballpark construction is currently estimated to begin next summer, and wrap up in late 2018. Fayetteville is still working with the Houston Astros to finalize the lease agreement. The two sides are also looking into where the franchise, which is joining the Carolina League next year as part of the Carolina/California league realignment, will play until the ballpark opens.
