Another PDC to report: the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (Short Season A; Northwest League) and the San Francisco Giants extended their player-development contract (PDC) through the 2018 season.
“We are extremely happy about our association with the Giants,” said Jerry Walker, long-time owner of the franchise. “Our history dates back many years together and we’ve accomplished a lot during those years. It’s been a fantastic relationship. Our fans like the association with the Giants as many of our fans are lifelong Giants fans.”
The franchises originally joined forces back in September 1994, in Bellingham, Washington when they signed a four-year Player Development Contract. That agreement spanned two years in Bellingham and the relocation of the franchise and the building of Volcanoes Stadium in Salem-Keizer (1997). Nine two-year extensions began in 1998, bringing the agreement through September 30, 2016.
“We are very pleased to extend our agreement in Salem-Keizer,” said Bobby Evans, General Manager of the San Francisco Giants. “The Giants have enjoyed being a part of the Salem-Keizer community and have particularly appreciated the commitment of the Volcanoes’ ownership and management team. We look forward to continuing an already great association with the Volcanoes. They provide an ideal situation for the Giants to develop our players; an excellent stadium, wonderful climate, consistent and passionate ownership, a generous host family program and terrific fan support. Jerry and Lisa Walker continue to reinvest into the facility and the Giants look forward to being at Volcanoes Stadium for many years into the future.”
