No pressure here: the new Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees (Class AAA; International League) will begin the 2013 season at a renovated PNC Field on April 4 — the first day of the MiLB season.
Normally teams opening a new ballpark open the season on the road to give everyone involved every possible minute to complete their tasks. And although it’s technically a renovation job, the changes at PNC Field amount to a totally new ballpark on the operations side: concessions and the suite level are new, as will be ticketing and team offices. Add in a new front office and new branding, and you’ve got a team facing a daunting task.
So deciding to jump in immediately on the opening night of the International League season is a bold, bold move.
“We cannot wait to share with our community the re-constructed PNC Field on April 4, 2013,” SWB Yankees President and General Manager Rob Crain said via press release. “In only 239 days, SWB baseball fans will finally have baseball back and they will have the opportunity to watch the next Yankee greats in the most fan-friendly venue in all of MiLB.”
