OC Flyers owners double down on NAL with purchase of Na Koa Ikaika Maui

Na Koa Ikaika MauiThree owners of the Orange County Flyers have doubled down their investment in the new independent North American League with a purchase of Na Koa Ikaika Maui from Xcellence in Entertainment.

The trio — owner Harris Tulchin, managing member Leroy Pettigrew and investor Bob Young — announced their purchase via a press release. They’ve been working on a new ballpark solution in Fullerton.

“We are thrilled to share the good news with our devoted fans in Maui and all of those who supported the Na Koa Ikaika Maui in their inaugural season that Hawaii Baseball, LLC, has consummated its acquisition of the team,” Pettigrew said in the release.

The investment solidifies the North American League lineup for 2011: it had been rumored that the former owners of the franchise, Xcellence in Entertainment, experienced financial issues after a less-than-successful 2010 debut, rumors the ownership worked to quell.

The new owners are promising several upgrades to Maehara Stadium, including a new batters’ eye and restrooms.
