Lackawanna County issues RFQ for PNC Field renovations

New PNC Field

Despite a lawsuit from Luzerne County that threatens to derail the sale of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees (Class AAA; International League) to the New York Yankees and Mandalay Baseball, Lackawanna County is moving ahead with the renovation of PNC Field, issuing a RFQ for a construction manager.

You can view the RFQ here in PDF form.

The county wants to settle on a construction manager by Nov. 29 at 4 p.m., giving them a voice early in the renovation project. Renovations would not begin until after the 2011 SWB Yankees season ends, would continue through the 2012 season and be completed in time for the 2013 season opener; a specific timeline is still to be determined. The upper bowl as well as most of the existing ballpark would be torn down, while the only things untouched by the renovation would be the playing field, parking lots, lower bowl and home clubhouse. A new suite level would be built where the current suites and upper deck are located. A wraparound concourse will ring the playing field, and total capacity (with standing room) would be around 8,500.
