Cleveland to unveil Snow Days at Progressive Field

Progressive FieldIt’s the dream of every baseball team to monetize a ballpark in winter months, but the Cleveland Indians are building weeks of promotions and activities into a six-week promotion: Snow Days, featuring ice skating, snow tubing and more.

Each day, beginning on Nov. 26, the Indians will blanket Progressive Field with 150 tons of snow, which will result in more than 5,000 tons of snow over the course of the event.

“We created Indians Snow Days at Progressive Field to be the destination for winter entertainment in Northeast Ohio,” said Indians Vice President of Public Relations Bob DiBiasio. “This first of its kind event will give downtown Cleveland another marquee attraction this winter that will be sure to create memories for families, friends and co-workers.”

The activities include the Batterhorn (a 10-lane snow-tubing hill from the top of the bleacher), the Frozen Mile (a quarter-mile ice-skating track around the outfield, with a small kids’ ice-skating rink in the left-field corner), Slider’s Snow Mountain (a kids’ play area in short left field), Winter Haven (a walking trail through the outfield featuring winter lights) and the Home Run Porch (an area to congregate and watch the festivities, complete with fire pit and concessions).

Pricing varies depending on activities; a family of four will pay $100 for a package that includes a ski rental, unlimited skating and two hours of tubing. Indians Snow Days will run primarily every day beginning November 26 until January 2, 2011, with hours between noon and 10 p.m.
