Glickman to assist in Civic Stadium preservation effort

Marshall Glickman, the man who helped bring the Portland Beavers back to the Rose City, will help Civic Stadium preservationists in Eugene.

Marshall Glickman, the man who helped bring the Portland Beavers (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League) back to the Rose City, will help Civic Stadium preservationists in Eugene.

The goal: renovate the historic ballpark, which has hosted Pacific Coast and Northwest League baseball since 1938, and give it a solid footing for the future. The ballpark is owned by the local school district, which doesn't want to be in the business of owning a ballpark. There's also some hope that a renovated Civic Stadium could bring back the Eugene Emeralds (short season; Northwest League), who are playing this season and next at PK Park under a two-year contract.

Glickman is also a former president of the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers and was part of Portland Family Entertainment's disastrous run as owner of the Beavers and Portland Timbers. Since then he's been working as a sports consultant.

Civic Stadium is on our list of Endangered Ballparks.
